Our Story

History

We are a micro winery in the making, located in Paris, Ontario. Kimmy has been delving into wine making since 2012. Family and friends have loved her wine so much that the adventure to incorporate a ‘Super Berry’ began.

Kimmy has been introducing and experimenting with foraging, preserving, and wine making from local plants and fruit by bringing in her Metis heritage to learn more about indigenous plants and their health benefits. The Haskap experience has proven to be successful. The berries unique and wonderful flavour can be used both in sweet and savoury dishes. The wine has been enjoyed by all who have tasted, surprised that it has come from berries. The wine resembles a full bodied dry fruit wine.

Delano has begun a love for the art of wine making. He is larger than life and a force to be reckoned with. Kimmy best describes him as ‘Toasted Marshmallow’ ... crunchy on the outside and mushy on the inside!

Together Delano and Kimmy with their family and friends have worked tirelessly to get the 5 acres of Haskaps berries planted and manicured by hand to ensure an excellent quality of fruit. Blue Gables Acres is not an organic farm but we keep it as clean as possible by applying organic methods to insure our plants are as healthy as possible. We encourage hummingbirds and nuthatches to eat the little pests, utilize mulch to keep down weeds so chemicals are not needed, and deploy canopy nets to protect the Haskap berries from the thieving waxwing birds - who would strip our fields within a few days.
